Roman Military Castle "Dimum" Archaeological site

In I century Dimum was a very important strategic point of the Roman province of Mizia. During the time of the first Roman Emperor Octavian Augustus the fortress appeared the most northeastern point and border of the Roman province of Mizia and the Thracian kingdom. In the beginning of II to the end of the III century here was the camp stabilitated horse military part of the Roman army, which probably built the fortress itself. The site has been studied by archaeologists several times. During excavations in 1989, Was examined part of the fortification system of the castle, from which a preserved area of about 60 meters was revealed. In 1990, the South Tower of the Western Fortress Gate-gate Pretoria was opened. The walls of two buildings were discovered-one of the late Antiquity, the other from the earlier occupation, as well as the floor level of the medieval dwelling. Numerous objects and artifacts, dating from various periods-the early and Late Antiquity, the early and late Middle Ages, the Ottoman period were found in the archaeological excavations of the castle. Among the artifacts are a bronze statuette of the goddess Demeter (Isis), bronze ornaments and appliques, glass bracelets, household items, copper coins, etc. Some of them are stored in the Chitalishte "Hristo Botev 97" in the town. In 1968, Castel Dimum in Belene was declared a monument of national importance.
