Persina Nature Park Parks and Gardens
The natural Park "Persina" was announced on December 4, 2000 with a total area of 21762.2 ha. Situated on the territory of three municipalities: Nikopol, Belene and Svishtov.
Persina Nature Park is unique for Bulgaria. Its announcement aims at preserving and restoring the Danube wetlands and preserving the natural state of the numerous islands. The islands, which are part of the park, are divided into two island groups-the Nicopolska island group and the Belenski Islands complex. Here lies the largest Bulgarian Danube island-Persin, gave the name of the natural park. The uniqueness and great significance of the Belenski Islands complex is the reason why it is declared the largest area of Ramsar in Bulgaria.
Persina Nature Park is one of the fifty ornithological important places in Bulgaria, part of the European Ecological Network NATURA 2000, as a protected area under both directives: the Habitats directive and the Birds Directive.
The natural state of the islands in the park's composition, its unique location, the dynamics of the Danube are made by "Persina", one of the key founders and members of the association "Danubian Parks". The international organization was founded in 2014 as a result of long-standing work and joint international cooperation between 20 protected areas on the Danube river. Currently, the association is members of 12 organizations.
